Mary Elizabeth Aitken GILMOUR

UNLAWFULLY KILLING.

Gavin Found Guilty. BRISBANE, September 29. In the Supreme Court to-day Stephen Thomas Gavin, aged 28, was found guilty of killing Mary Elizabeth Gilmour at Brisbane on July 30. He was remanded for sentence. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr. Sheehy) said that Gavin bore an excellent character. He lived with his people. Mr. A. McGill (counsel for the accused) in asking the judge to extend mercy, said that the jury had made no recommendation to mercy but he submitted that it was a case of contributory negligence. Judge Macrossan : I am inclined to that view myself. I regard it as a very bad case. I am going to take into consideration all extenuating circumgtances.
